Prevention Programs
Prevention programs and presentations are available to children and adults throughout Clearfield and Jefferson counties. Each year the prevention staff at CJDAC provide numerous evidence-based school programs to students, as well as drug/alcohol awareness programs to parents and adults throughout the community. If you would like to schedule a program for your school, organization, or community group please contact the Clearfield-Jefferson Drug and Alcohol’s prevention team at: 814-371-9002. Below is a sample of the programs available but the prevention team will also work with you to create a program to address your specific needs.
School-based prevention programs
Recurring programs such as Too Good for Drugs and We Know BETter, focus on life skills, peer pressure refusal skills and information on alcohol, tobacco, other drugs (ATOD) and gambling. These programs are presented in a classroom setting and occur over multiple weeks. Additional presentations and programs regarding ATOD and Gambling are available for both school students and staff.
Teacher and staff in-services are always available and can be designed to meet your school’s specific needs. Current Youth Drug Trends is a great program for school staff. This program uses the Pennsylvania Youth Survey data to explore current drug trends in your school or community while also discussing common signs/symptoms of use. The program also includes actual examples of drug paraphernalia and various stash cases used by youth to hide drugs/alcohol in plain sight.
Community-based prevention programs
A variety of programs are available for both youth in an after-school setting and adults in community groups.
- Employers can partner with CJDAC to sponsor a Drug Free Workplace PA training for their employees. For more information please visit:
https://www.drugfreeworkplacepa.org/ - Town Hall Meetings: Presentations on a variety of topics including Current Youth Drug Trends, Vaping, Risk and Protective Factors are available for county wide/community gatherings, as well as local organizations seeking accurate information and assistance on ways in which they can minimize the misuse of Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs.
- PA Stop: is designed to educate Pennsylvanians about the risks of prescription painkiller and heroin use, the relationship between painkiller and heroin use, and what to do when you need help. We are working to prevent non-medical use of prescription painkillers and, in so doing, to break the connection between heroin and prescription painkillers. Together, we can stop opiate addiction before it starts. www.pastop.org
- PA Start: is about building healthy, capable children. Meeting developmental needs while providing the right guidance to achieve is a delicate balancing act. It can be a challenge to families and educators. We want kids to grow in a safe environment and learn how to make good choices, but sometimes we are at a loss in knowing what works best. www.pastart.org
